The inaugural Hong Kong Rugby League Friday Night Lights event has proved to be a massive success, attracting a committed group of enthusiastic sports fans to Kings Park in Kowloon.
Coming from a range of different backgrounds and walks of life, the group joined HKRL Chairman, James Hall, to run through the basics of the code before engaging in some touch football to finish off the training.
The group then headed to sponsor bar Pulse in Wanchai to enjoy some food and beers.
Created as a lead in to the Hong Kong Nines tournament, which will be held later in the year, the Friday Night Lights concept is designed to introduce interested individuals to the ins and outs of the code.
Commenting on the evening HKRL Chairman James Hall, praised the inaugural Friday Night Lights event.
“Friday Night Lights was always designed to be a fun and social introduction to Rugby League for the people of Hong Kong, and based upon the feedback we’ve received from the inaugural group, we feel we achieved that goal. Everyone said it was a great way to kick off the weekend”
“It was really encouraging having such a diverse group attend, ranging from ex-pats who had played League previously, to people who had never even watched a game.”
“We are really looking forward to continuing to build the event over the next few weeks and really encourage anyone who is curious about Rugby League to come on down. Ability and experience is no barrier”
The next Friday Night Light event will be held on Friday, July 10 at Kings Park.
Interested individuals are encouraged to RSVP here or email info@hongkongrugbyleague.com
Training / social games is completely free. Post training, the group will head to Mr Wongs for all you can eat and drink for just HKD $60 – no doubt a crowd will then push on to Wanchai/LKF.
