Last night Hong Kong Rugby League took the game to Tin Shui Wai for the last game of the formal season, Pacific Toa played Wanchai Warriors though truth be told Wanchai was mostly made up of Toa players. Wanchai stalwarts Jason Yip and Neville Metcalfe laced up their boots for one last hurrah (how many times have we heard that?) and young Warrior Milo Mcentegart stood up and finished the game as the league’s most improved player.
In sweltering heat and sticky humidity the game played out over 5 x 10 minute sessions, Toa quickly scored and things were looking ominous but Wanchai rallied through Hong Kong international Hogan Toomalatai. Both teams were going hammer and tong and swapping scores and by the end of the first 20 minutes there was only four points difference and only eight points after 30 minutes. In the end though Toa’s superior fitness and toughness in defence got them through. Pacific Toa finished the game 68 – 54 victors with Solomona, Toma and Tanielu putting in very good performances.
A huge thank you to all at Pacific Toa for their commitment to rugby league this year and their fantastic sponsor GoGoBaon https://gogobaon.com who supplied some delicious wraps for the after game dinner. Thanks also to Tim McCosker who once again provided physio support, mostly to Jason Yip but that’s to be expected.
Next up for rugby league in Hong Kong is ASEAN 9s training, Hong Kong will send a Hong Kong Residents team to Pattaya, Thailand if you’re interested please email email@example.com
